PRESCHOOL

We are very fortunate to have a preschool on our site.

Preschool is available to children in the year prior to starting school as a Reception student. Preschool is a play based program to encourage the development of social, emotional and communication skills.

Children are able to attend Preschool for up to 15 hours per week which is currently offered as five half-day sessions Monday to Thursday. Families are able to choose a combination of full and half days. Children staying for a full day have a supervised half hour lunch time. Staff attempt to best match the needs of families in the allocation of days and session times. Children with additional needs may start Preschool early. Please contact the Principal for more information.

Program

Our program is developed using :

“Belonging, Being, Becoming—The Early Years Learning Framework for Australia”. This encompasses five learning outcomes;

  • Children have a strong sense of identity
  • Children are connected to and contribute to their world
  • Children have a strong sense of wellbeing
  • Children are confident and involved learners
  • Children are effective communicators

The program is dynamic and changes to meet the needs of the children.

The program encompasses planned activities and experiences and children’s interests.

National Quality Standard

The National Quality Standard brings together seven key Quality Areas that are important outcomes for children.

  • Educational program and practice
  • Children’s health and safety
  • Physical development
  • Staffing arrangements
  • Relationships with children
  • Collaborative partnerships with families and communities
  • Leadership and service management.

In 2012 Allenby Gardens Preschool was assessed as “Exceeding” in all key areas.

Playgroup is organised by parent volunteers. Children birth to 5 years attend with their parents/caregivers to engage in play and social experiences.
